Começou sua carreira em 2003 assinando um contrato com a ex-gravadora Adventures in Music com o nome artístico Verbalicious na qual lançou seu primeiro single “Don’t Play Nice” que atingiu posição #11 nos UK Singles Chart. Em 2008 lançou seu EP titulado “Womannequin” na qual postou suas canções no MySpace chamando atenção de grandes produtores sendo assim assinando um contrato com a gravadora Interscope e lançando seu primeiro álbum “Perfectionist” em 2011 com a parceria do rapper Will.I.AM.

Kills released her first single "Mirrors" in August 2010. The song charted in the top 10 in Germany. She released her debut album, Perfectionist in Germany in April 2011. Kills called Kate Bush and Alanis Morissette her most important musical influences, highlighting them as emotional artists who wrote honestly about their own experiences. She also claims that Prince, Vanity 6 and Freddie Mercury inspire her live performances.
